Hilltop Vacuums Plus has been in business for over 40 years, and it all started when owner Mark Oachs was working his way through college with a part time job in vacuum sales. This is when he found out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life: provide the best service he could possibly fathom in the industry. This one simple belief evolved into a full-fledged vacuum cleaner retail company. F

This is why we only stock our shelves with products that pass our four tests of filtration, power, reliability and ease of use (if it doesn’t pass, then we won’t stock it). Did You Know? Early vacuum cleaners weren't electric or even truly vacuums. They were hand-pumped devices or carpet beaters. Daniel Hess invented a "carpet sweeper" in 1860, which used bellows to create suction.

Hubert Cecil Booth is credited with inventing the first commercially viable powered vacuum cleaner in 1901. He developed a large, horse-drawn machine that used suction to clean buildings.

James Murray Spangler invented the first portable electric vacuum cleaner in 1907. He was a department store janitor who was looking for a way to manage his asthma, which was aggravated by dust. He used a fan motor and a pillowcase to create suction and collect dust.
