With my architecture background (architect graduate at RPI) and minor in Human Factors in Design (Human Psychology), I look at the world differently. As a full-time lighting specialist helping design professionals with lighting design, I immediately emerged as an upcoming designer specializing in providing design solutions of all types. Through professional experience over the years, I’ve mastered distorting perspectives, brightening spaces, beautifying realities, and optimizing space through different techniques I’ve implemented. As I purchased my own home and expanded my home decor experience with a little bit of DIY love in between, it’s become my passion to bring the same love and balance in your homes. Project Little Versailles
This was a running joke of our clients' daughter when she saw her mom's bedroom for the first time and it just stuck.

Yesterday, I shared the process of getting the wallpaper on the ceiling to create this dramatic moment above the bed. This was originally challenging because we had to work with the bed that our client adored which meant tones of all the materials had to be just right.

This was a very rare case of us making drastic changes after a 3D design because we learned the goal was actually not a matured queendome as we called it. When we fine tuned how we communicated the design goals a simple fix in paint and wallpaper on one wall made the difference.

I share this story to say, sometimes that reach for perfection in design can be limiting the full potential of a design scheme. Being flexible allowed us to do something we never done before and it catapulted other ideas throughout this home.

I love that our client was so adamant about what she loved because it was the room that was so important to her. Like most of us moms, when our kids age, we're so used to taking care of others and thinking about everyone else in our homes, but this time, as her kids are no longer in her home, she could design around only her needs.

I think it's those stories that tug at your heart and truly make the entire journey worth it. If you made it this far, I hope this can be your reminder that your home is YOU and should always reflect your personality. Go after your goals even if it's scary at first.

When the master suite is truly a home sanctuary...

One of the behind the scene highlights from our shoot yesterday was showcasing this master bedroom closet. Our bedrooms always extend to the closet alongside our partners Trust in Tricia / Tricia Cromwell because we are firm believers that the closet and bedroom is where your home journey begins. Your day typically begins and ends in your bedroom but how you dress and treat your bedroom often sparks all other areas of your home.

Imagine waking up to a closet where everything can be seen and has a place. We love boutique closets like this as they really are an elevated piece of the home experience that makes all the difference.

Stay tuned to see how this closet transformed and has stayed well organized even months later!

Are you someone that struggles with choosing the right paint color?

When it comes to color palettes, there are so many things to consider like natural light, undertones, shades, and the color theory aspects that color has to the human psyche. On site consultations help with creating the overall vision and not just an isolated wall. Considering the entire design, helps make sure you're choosing the right color from the beginning. We always recommend samples that you can put up on the wall of the true color; noting the color in different times of the day and weather conditions.

When Nana is in site...

It's been a while since we had Margaret on site for our floral arrangements and it was the perfect time to have her back in action!

Desiree 's passion for decorating started at an early age watching her grandmother decorate for church events. Alongside her mom, Sharon and sister Dara its been a family affair since the very beginning.

As we are getting close to completion for our 2nd Brownstone renovation, it's been a full circle moment getting these finishing touches in place. Stay tuned to see what we've been up to these last 7 months transforming 10 areas of this home.

It's our founder's birthday!

In her own words...
"Birthdays are beautiful moments to pause and reflect on self. It's a reminder of a journey of self discovery, power, and inner serenity. Something I've always aimed to exude in all our work is this constant goal of ourselves being supported in our own sanctuaries...the home.

With this, I think back to my 29th birthday when I took that leap of faith in creating something that could be a gift that kept on giving. March 2020 the week of my 30th birthday, God transitioned me into this full time entrepreneur journey with Designs By Des Interiors and I never looked back. A time that felt so unreal turned into an emotional birthday gift I never imagined."

Today, we celebrate the beautiful journey of 36 years of life Desiree is celebrating and all the beauty we know will continue to come. Cheers to our Princple and Interior Designer, Desireé and may her birthday be filled with much love and blessings! Thank you Des for all you do!

How many guys does it take to install a bed?
Answer... 4

A rare moment in time showing the many challenges we rarely show on a jobsite. Each panel on the sideboard is solid wood and very heavy. With this master suite being on a second floor, it required careful planning and consideration when installing from getting it in this home, up a grand staircase, and then down a narrow hallway area. Executing something like this took a lot of planning around the recessed lit hallway niches that lead up to it.

The end result? A GORGEOUS master suite that is more functional and elevated. Our finished photos are coming very soon, but for now we're celebrating the little wins in pulling through a challenging set up to make our clients happy. A huge team win!

A little construction update...
Have you heard the news?

Designs By Des Interiors is the interior designer for Shine Construction's new home office in Uxbridge, MA.

This is a project that's been on the works behind the scenes since the summer and we are expected to open the doors end of spring this year. It's a 10 room commercial space getting a full transformation down to the bones. Check out our Interior Designer Desiree Washington project update for a design tour.
