Hardwood Fun Fact

Not all hardwood floors are made from the same tree species!

Red oak, maple, hickory, walnut, birch, and white oak all have different grain patterns, hardness ratings, and personalities. Hickory is one of the hardest domestic species, while walnut is prized for its rich color and character.

The number in parentheses is where the wood species rates on the Janka scale. This is a measure how resistant a wood species is to dents. The higher the number, the harder the wood.

Bonus Fun Fact: The Janka test measures the force required to embed a steel ball halfway into a piece of wood. The more force required, the higher the rating! 💪
