Should I take my tube off? 🌱

🦌 These photos are of a Ninebark shrub I planted in spring 2025. The second photo shows new growth extending outside the tube that was recently nipped off by deer.

We have a high deer population here, and while I was tempted to remove the tube this season, I’ve decided to leave it on for one more growing season to give the roots more time to establish before exposing the shrub to heavy browsing pressure.

For shrubs, we generally recommend leaving tree tubes on for two growing seasons.

🌎 Happy Earth Day from Wisconsin Bareroot Nursery! 🌱
Planting trees is one of the most practical ways to improve the land—for wildlife, soil health, water quality, and future generations.

Whether you're building habitat, establishing a windbreak, or adding long-term value to your property, each tree you plant serves a purpose.

We’re proud to provide hardy, affordable bare root trees that are well-suited for Midwest conditions and real-world planting goals.

Together, we’re not just planting trees—we’re growing legacies. 🌳

We love seeing your planting photos—whether it’s your very first tree or part of a long-standing tradition. 🌱🌲

This week we’re featuring three customers: one planting their first trees (welcome to the journey!) and another who’s been planting with us for years. It’s rewarding to be part of both the beginning and the continuation of your projects.

Tree pickup has officially started, and we still have inventory available.

You can check current availability on our website or use the link at the bottom of each page in our catalog. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, email us and we’ll send it your way.

Pickup season has officially begun! Check your email to see if your order is ready.
🌱 About 90% of our trees are ready to go. If you haven’t heard from us yet, don’t worry—we’ll be in touch when your full order is ready. Also check your spam folder—a few customers have let us know our emails ended up there by mistake.
🌳 We still have plenty of great trees and shrubs available if you’d like to add to your order! And when you stop by for pickup, don’t miss what we’ve got in store: shovels, dibble bars, root dips, food plot seed, apparel, and more.

🐝Basswood (American Linden)
This tree grows quickly and develops a broad canopy, making it a dependable option for shade, wind protection, and habitat. Its fragrant pale-yellow flowers are a favorite for bees, while the seeds provide food for birds and small mammals.

🌳Why consider Basswood:
• Native to Wisconsin
• Fast growth (12–24” per year)
• Excellent pollinator value - some call it the Bee Tree
• Adaptable to a range of soils
• Strong, deep root system for stability

Basswood is still available:
18–24”
1–9: $9.00
10–99: $4.50
100+: $3.38
