I’ve seen several posts telling people in the path of hurricanes to put important paperwork and keepsakes in their dishwasher to keep them safe and dry. Although this advise is better than leaving your important papers sitting in your desk drawer. I have cleaned up from floods, (most caused by plumbing issues), and I can tell you that a dishwasher is NOT waterproof under flood conditions. You’re much better off to put your paperwork in a waterproof container such as Tupperware or a plastic tote (they also float). Taking pictures of important paperwork and putting them on a thumb drive or uploading to a cloud is a great waterproof alternative.
