I don’t follow a formula! I walk through my gardens early in the morning or late evening (while it’s still light) and pick whatever flowers are at their peak. Then I let my imagination take over, guided by the flowers I have in my buckets.

This green pottery container comes from a little gift shop in Hague NY and was filled with small succulents when I purchased it many years ago. It’s been sitting on my shelf for a long time and yesterday, I decided I would try to use it for my weekly floral arrangement for Esther’s Coffee House today. Last night I was texting with my friend Elizabeth Larson about another upcoming floral display I’m planning and she suggested a long low arrangement in a container similar to this. Funny how life works sometimes!

When I was making this this morning, the nursery rhyme “Mary Mary, quite contrary” kept coming to mind. So this one I’m calling Contrary Mary’s garden.
