I realize I'm using my FB site more like a blog and website. Here is an article (cliff note version) that I found really helpful:

Social Media - 10 mistakes
1)
Treating all platforms the same, they are not created equal. Avoid generic posts. Know your demographic. The most used social platform is YouTube, followed by Facebook and IG.
2)
Don't create an overly promotional presence (oops). Post meaningful content, share information, and be a resource.
3)
Don't lack strategy. Create specific goals, plan, execute, and measure results (ROI).
4)
Not having goals. Have purpose in posting, all to advance and make your business thrive. Examples: Increase brand awareness, lead generation, community engagement, grow audience, and increase web traffic.
5)
Ignoring your followers. Respond to positive, address with sidebar negative.
6)
Try not to be inconsistent or irrelevant. Authentic in your brand voice. Only topics relating to your company. (Well, these are goals, we are not perfect :-).
7)
Being impersonal. Show your personality, the human thought side. Be real.
8)
Leave space for the present. If everything is scheduled, you may miss current happenings that are relevant.
9)
Don't focus on quantity; go for quality. Don't post too often, but often enough, on the right platforms for your business.
10)
Do repurpose. Breaking down previously created content and on different platforms presented in different ways.

Remember these? Color Boards, pre-Houzz, pre-internet searching by everyone, created to demonstrate interior finish selections to the client. I loved making these (my Exacto knife skills are one of my strong suits - thank you again, pre-internet graphic design). This is an out-of-focus photo and looks like spilled coffee, but you get the jest. This was a time when I had a baby and a two-year-old. I was an independent contractor for a woman I admire and, to this day, a good friend. She was a trailblazer, working in a man's world of Project Management, Corporate Interior Design, and worked for herself! I always wanted to be her (still do)! Working as an independent contractor for Kathy allowed me to do what I love and be a mom, thanks to this amazing lady. Forging a path to remodel Care Facilities to convert to Alzheimer's focused - back when this was all new, circa 2002. Thank you, Kathy Reid; I am forever grateful!

After art/design school, I spent my first few decades in Commerical Interior Design, Project Management, Facility Management, and Client Relations. I think that is why today, as an independent designer working for myself, I know how the process goes, from conception to living or working in the space, managing the whole process and all moving parts. These are a few throwbacks to the days of handwritten notes, accolades, letters of recommendation, and acknowledgment. Viking Office Products was a great company. At first, they were my client when I was a designer with a Herman Miller Furniture Dealership in Irvine, CA. I worked with an amazing woman Debbie Lengele who then hired me to be the US Project Manager to work on the new Headquarters and all the US locations. Then, the workers, all levels, from Executives to Call Center employees to warehouse workers, were my clients. I loved it. I wanted the best spaces for everyone and took a lot of pride in accomplishing this. Viking was bought by Office Depot, and I opted not to go to Boca Raton, FL, and moved on to more amazing opportunities.
