This afternoon we had an emergency job to take out the top of this Black Cherry that had broken in the high winds we've been having. We ran in to no issues and were able to get the tree down safely.

Today we did a crown training and thinning on this Sugar Maple. Sugar and Red Maples are notorious for needing thinned. It's important to stay on top of this or you will end up with a tree with a weak branching structure and shorter life.

Trees can be very unpredictable. We were preparing to climb this tree and lower it, but after pounding on it with an axe to see if it was solid, we could hear that it was quite rotted. Thankfully, we were able to take down a section of the fence and fell the tree into the woods. After it was on the ground we found that it only had about a 5 or 6 inch strip of solid wood. The tree looked reasonbly safe, but we never like to take chances.
