Our Story

After a decade in the awning industry working for other companies, company founders Frank Green and Brett Hodges joined forces in 1999. Together they opened Awning Innovations in a 15,000 SF facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, to focus on building the leading-edge, service-oriented company that had wanted to work for all those years. Their focus on building strong relationships with both employees and clients helped the business grow rapidly. In 2001 AI expanded with a second manufacturing location in the thriving Winston-Salem, North Carolina, area and expanded its Indiana facility to 30,000 SF. Over the past 15 years AI has continued to grow, innovating with technology, facilities, and staffing to add additional services and capabilities, most notably the introduction of sign production more than a decade ago. Now called AI Innovations, the company serves a wide range of clients from coast to coast providing wholesale signs, sign cabinets, channel letters, and most recently the innovative and sleek Slimbrite line of halo-lit, custom lettering and digital poster, sign, and banner printing. In 2014, AI Innovations expanded their Indiana sales and manufacturing headquarters into a new 116,000 SF in Fisher, Indiana, where they employee 105. The company plans to invest more than $6 million in new equipment and add an additional 133 full-time employees over the next five years. We look forward to expanding our capacity to combine quality craftsmanship and fast production and shipping to our sign and awning customers nationwide.
