Two years ago today, we launched StormHero

We didn’t start this company because we thought lightning protection would be a good business.

We started it because we’d seen what lightning can do.

We’ve walked through neighborhoods after homes were struck. We’ve seen families lose everything to fires that started in an instant. We knew there had to be a better way to help protect families before disaster strikes.

That became our mission. Protect as many homes and families as possible.

Today, 417 families have trusted StormHero to protect what matters most. That trust means everything to us.

In the two years since we launched StormHero, my Tempest weather station has recorded more than 100,000 lightning strikes within a 25 mile radius of McKinney. That’s 100,000 reminders of why we started this company and why protecting North Texas homes matters more than ever.

North Texas continues to grow. More homes are being built. More families are moving here. With that growth comes greater exposure to lightning.

When lightning starts a house fire, families can be displaced for a year or more while they rebuild. That’s something we hope no one ever has to experience.

As we head into an expected El Niño pattern, we’re anticipating a more active fall, winter, and spring ahead. That means more opportunities for severe weather and more lightning.

June was an active month for North Texas and this year so far we’ve seen an incredible amount of lightning.

My Tempest weather station in McKinney has now recorded more than 47,000 lightning strikes within a 25-mile radius. That’s the highest total I’ve recorded since installing it in 2020.

We’re also seeing the consequences. Multiple North Texas homes have been struck by lightning. Some suffered major electrical damage. Others caught fire, forcing families from their homes.

Most people don’t think about lightning until it strikes.

That’s one of the reasons we started StormHero.

This storm has produced an incredible amount of lightning across North Texas.

My Tempest weather station in McKinney recorded more than 16,000 lightning strikes within a 25-mile radius today alone. That’s the highest daily lightning count I’ve recorded since installing the station in 2020.

Unfortunately, we’re seeing the consequences.

Multiple homes across North Texas have been damaged by lightning. Some suffered major electrical damage. Others caught fire. Families have been displaced, and repairs could take months or even years.

Most people don’t spend much time thinking about lightning.

Until it strikes their home.

When people think about severe weather in North Texas, they usually think about tornadoes.

And May is typically our most active tornado month of the year.

But here’s what surprised me.

There were zero tornadoes recorded in North Texas during May.

Yet it was still one of our most active weather months.

Why?

Lightning.

My Tempest weather station in McKinney recorded more than 14,000 lightning strikes within a 25 mile radius during May. In fact, it was the second most active lightning month I recorded since installing the station in 2020.

And unfortunately, we saw the impacts.

Multiple homes across North Texas were damaged by lightning. Some suffered major electrical damage. Others caught fire. Families were displaced. Repairs will take months, If not years.

Most people don’t spend much time thinking about lightning.

One of the things we hear most from homeowners after installation?

“How subtle it looks.”

This customer in Frisco mentioned the system was “clean and barely noticeable,” and honestly, that’s exactly what we aim for.

Most homes already have vents, pipes, and roof penetrations that are much larger and more visible than a lightning protection system. Our rods are only 1/2” in diameter and 12” tall. Over time, the copper naturally patinas and blends into the roofline even more.

Real protection. Minimal visual impact.
