There are many types of insulation and it is important to work with experienced crews to pick the correct product. For this project chose open cell foam insulation for the upper floors and closed cell foam insulation for the basement.

Here are the differences between two types of foam most commonly used:

- Closed cell is denser.
- Closed cell has higher R Value (Closed cell is R6.0 per inch while open cell is R3.5 per inch).
- Open cell is more permeable.
- Open cell fills the entire cavity between the studs and is a fantastic sound isolator.
- Open cell, because of it's expansion, can be used in very hard to reach places.
- Open cell is less expensive.

This was a fun kitchen remodeling project. One of the design challenges was to remove a load bearing beam that cut the existing kitchen down the middle. This beam holds the second floor and the roof above. The client also requested a breakfast nook. We "took over' a useless balcony. By enclosing the balcony our team created a cozy place for the breakfast table. .
