Good information.

One of the nicest things about growing perennials is that they tend to multiply over time, so they can be divided and replanted, or given away to friends and neighbors. Learn which perennials you can divide, when to divide, and how to divide in this article... pwwin.rs/DPerSp24

Love this!

A 55 mph plant if we've ever seen one! Puffer Fish hydrangea flowers are bigger than your head! The creamy white color is enough of an appeal, but the abundance and cloud-like look of all the blooms together is more than eye-catching. It's awe inspiring. Memory making!

Fresh views from the trial and display gardens! Couldn't resist sharing this Reminiscent Coral rose in full bloom. Flowers are bursting with petals and fresh fragrance.

It keeps its good looks all summer long thanks to reliable disease resistance and the ability to rebloom without deadheading.

Good information

As we horticulturist, landscapers, garden centers and nurseries continue to get bombarded with freeze questions I remind you to have patience. 90% or more of the plants in our landscapes will recover given time. Don’t fall prey to people looking to take advantage of you by telling you everything is dead and needs to be either cut down or dug up and replaced. Just because the leaves have fallen off doesn’t mean the plant is dead. Plants like hollies, Aucuba, laurels, boxwoods, azaleas and nandinas will likely leaf out come spring. Plants with dead stems (which may include some of the above depending on where you live) like Loropetalum, gardenias and camellias will likely come back from the trunk or even the roots. Conifers like Arizona cypress and Japanese cedars may be a different story. Time will tell. Check out this publication from the University of Tennessee and watch the Facebook Live Celeste and I did on the UT Gardens Jackson page on January 10th for freeze damage tips and Troy B. Marden Travel page for the segment he did for Volunteer Gardener.https://westtn.tennessee.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/35/2023/01/Handling-the-Holiday-Freeze-in-Your-Lawn-Landscape.pdf

Good to know. Hopefully, we won't have ice this winter.

Good to know. Hopefully, we won't have ice this winter.

WINTER CARE TIP: If you are wondering if you should remove the ice from your plants the answer is NO! In their newsletter this week our partner company, Proven Winners ColorChoice Flowering Shrubs said that removing ice from a shrub will often result in much worse damage than if you had left it. Ice will melt naturally in time, usually leaving the plant unharmed. If the ice was heavy enough to cause damage, you can prune those branches off in late winter while the plant is still dormant.

This plant is fantastic. If you haven’t tried it yet, make sure you do in the Spring. You won’t be sorry.
