Young Josiah and Madison. What I wouldn’t give to be skinny like I was then (and back then I thought I was fat and ugly). Something I don’t think either of us imagined in these photos is that we would have the amazing life we have. And would have accomplished so much. A perfect daughter, a house, never been in debt for college, teaching college classes, and running a business (I don’t think anyone thought would still be around).

If I could give those two any advice, it would be to have fun, enjoy life, and don’t let people take advantage of your kindness and caring nature. Remember friends and life changes with the seasons. People grow apart, the world changes, and to take those chances and don’t be scared. Be unapologetically you. People will love you for you (if not, who cares). You will find your path.

Write that story. Make memories. Don’t fight the season of life. Be you.

We’re excited to feature our mother–daughter boutique, blending cozy candles with a love for books. We’ll have handcrafted soy candles and home fragrance from Candles by Madison, along with suspense novels by my mom, author Brenda Morgan. The perfect week off from my day job! It wasn’t like our usual vacation weeks, but it was much needed for my mental health. We spent a lot of time trying to catch up on our to-do lists. We also had a high school graduation, middle school band concert, some candle orders, and I had a Marketing college course I’m preparing to teach this summer (It still doesn’t feel real that Josiah and I are both instructors at a college).

My favorite day of break was when we got to see a best friend we haven’t been able to meet up with for 6 months! You know those friends that are up for anything and you can be unapologetic you around? That’s her for us. This outing was different because we had our little sidekick, so we went to Fulton Street Market, hung out in her apartment, and then visited a few food trucks for some delicious food.

Family, friends, and some relaxing was just what I needed. Now is time to put my human resource hat back on and go back to my day job.

Well, we are almost in the home stretch on Book 3… and I honestly can’t believe it. ❤️

I’ve already started thinking about ideas for Book 4.

When I wrote The Woman Who Came Back, I never imagined I’d end up writing a series. After I finished that first book, I struggled for months because I had grown so attached to Liz. At first, I thought maybe it was because she was my very first main character, but then readers started telling me, “This can’t be the end of Liz.”

Then Liz popped up a few times in What He Left Behind… but apparently that still wasn’t enough for some readers or me, for that matter. 😊

Now in Book 3, she’s coming back full force.

And honestly? As long as I keep writing about this town, these people, and these stories… I think this really has become a series.
I don’t even have a name for it yet, but I find myself wondering:
What happens between Krista and Charlie?
Or Krista and Nick?
Where does Grace go to college?
What does she become?

Am I the only one emotionally invested in these characters?

The truth is… I don’t even know the answers yet. But I’m excited to discover them with all of you.

Road trip day! Today was so much fun and exactly what I needed. I spent the day with Emerson and my parents. We headed to Lakeview to restock candles and my mom’s books at Peddlers Patch. We had lunch at McKenna’s, grabbed cheese and drinks at Griffith Market, and then visited FIVE local libraries where my mom donated the books she authored (yes, my mom’s an author — and Book 3 is coming in June!). We also made a stop at Marshalls for a little more retail therapy. 💛
