💧 Watering Tips for High Temperatures

Northeast Ohio is feelin' the heat this week! 🥵

It's pretty early in the season for this kind of heat and the young plants in many of our gardens this time of year are especially susceptible to prolonged high temperatures.

🌱 They haven't yet developed mature root systems that can access water deeper within the soil.

🌱 They don't have extensive leaf coverage to shade the surrounding soil and prevent water from evaporating quickly.

⬇️ Follow these Watering Tips to support your plants during high temps:

💧 Water as early in the morning as possible. Give your plants max time to soak it up BEFORE the heat of the day kicks in.

💧 Fully saturate the soil. When in doubt, water more than you think you need to. Good quality garden soil will act as a sponge and soak up the moisture, trapping it for plants to access throughout the day.

💧 Check and water again in the evening. Stick your finger into the dirt - does any part of it come out wet? Look for signs of plant distress (drooping/wilting leaves, dry leaf tips). If there's no moisture in your soil or plants are showing signs of distress, water thoroughly again.
