Here’s an after/before throwback from a few years ago in Wi******er. This house had great curb appeal but the back was lacking. We added a breakfast nook, new kitchen and expanded a bedroom. It’s not everyday you can do a slate roof on a project.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned was 20 years ago while renovating my own house. It never pays to hang your own plaster board. It took my brother Mark and I all week to hang what a crew could have done in a few hours. I think I saved $700. Having trusted and consistent sub contractors is THE cornerstone of a successful project.

It was only three weeks ago the frame was finished on the Perkins addition. Electrical, HVAC and plumbing is roughed. Today we are building the deck, installing red cedar shingles and the insulation is being sprayed.

After clearing mud out of the excavation from all the rain, we finally got footings poured. Then Ida stopped by. No big deal in the grand scheme of things.

So much of our work is repeat clients. We’ve done two bathrooms, kitchen, all interior trim, fireplace surround, new stairs, custom bookcase, windows, foyer floor, front and rear porches and new furnace for this wonderful client in a span of maybe 5 years. It’s especially nice when you are in sync on design. @ Melrose, Massachusetts

I’m going to miss this sweet little house. After designing and personally building it on weekends for the past few years, it officially belongs to a new caretaker.
