At Stable Ground Excavating, completing the contracted work is only part of the job—the way we leave your property matters too.

As these before-and-after photos show, this yard was heavily disturbed during the excavation process. Although completely restoring and hand-raking every surrounding area wasn’t necessarily part of the original scope, I wasn’t comfortable leaving the project looking unfinished.

We took the extra time to redistribute the topsoil, restore the grade, rake everything smooth, clean the concrete, and leave the entire work area looking cared for.

Going above and beyond doesn’t always require something complicated. Sometimes it simply means putting in a little more time and effort because the details matter. That is the standard I want Stable Ground Excavating to be known for: quality work from the first scoop to the final cleanup.

This project was started and completed today. Now it’s time for a bonfire and some time in the outdoor Hot tub relaxing at home.

Another phase complete for Stable Ground Excavating! 🚜

The building pad is in and graded, but this project isn’t finished yet.

A solid building starts long before the first post goes in. This phase was about preparing the site, bringing in material, establishing the proper elevations, and building a stable pad with drainage in mind.

Next up, we may be back to construct the barn — and once construction is complete, we’ll return for the finish grading, bringing in topsoil, dressing everything in around the new structure, and leaving the property clean and properly drained.

From the first bucket of dirt to the final grade, we’re able to take a project from raw ground to finished site.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women represented just 4.6% of construction equipment operators in the United States in 2025.¹ And that number includes women operating all types of construction equipment—not specifically excavator operators working underground mainline.

Narrow that field to women trusted in the mainline digger seat, excavating for underground pipe, and the number becomes substantially smaller. Narrow it again to women who not only perform that specialized work but also own and operate their own excavation company, and a reasonable estimate puts that combination at less than 0.01% of American women—fewer than 1 in 20,000

After 14 years in the industry, I have personally never worked alongside another female mainline digger putting pipe in the ground.

Stable Ground Excavating LLC isn’t woman-owned in name only. It’s backed by years in the seat, years in the dirt, and firsthand experience doing the work.

A building pad is only as good as what’s underneath it. 👷‍♀️

This site had wet ground conditions, so simply spreading a few inches of gravel over it wasn’t going to cut it.

We built this pad using 1x3 crushed stone as our base, giving us a strong, coarse layer to help stabilize the softer subgrade, distribute the load, and provide drainage. We then finished it with 21AA, which compacts tightly and gives us a solid, gradeable surface for the next phase of construction.

Is that 1x3 going to make drilling our pole-barn post holes a little more interesting? Absolutely. 😂 But we’d rather fight the stone with an auger now than fight settlement and a failing pad later.

There’s a reason behind the materials we choose and the way we build our pads. Good site work isn’t just about how it looks when you leave—it’s about how it performs years down the road.

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on what we’ve had going on at Stable Ground Excavating — and it’s been a busy year so far!
