Warning Long Post: Family & Friends, please check your homeowners insurance policy and make sure that you have building code coverage. I just found out that a client will have to come out of pocket for some of the work that they need because they don’t have coverage to cover code upgrades. Let me explain how this works. I have a client who’s home was struck by lightning during last week’s storms. The lightning strike damaged a phase in her breaker box. So she has to get her breaker box replaced because only half of the electrical in her home is working right now. Unfortunately, her current breaker box is in a closet and that is against code. So I have to move the breaker box to the outside of the home, add a surge protector and redo the bonding of the electrical system in order to satisfy the electrical inspector. All of these things are considered building code upgrades by the insurance company. So the insurance company requires any work that I do to get inspected by Shelby County Code enforcement but, they don’t cover any upgrades that are required when code enforcement inspects my work. So my hands are tied and she has to spend money out of her pocket besides her deductible. Check your homeowners insurance coverage.

The Holidays are approaching and for the week of Thanksgiving we will have special holiday hours. We will be open for normal business hours on Monday 11/24 & Tuesday 11/25. On Wednesday 11/26 we will close at 2p and we will remained closed through Sunday 11/30. On Monday 12/1 we will reopen at 8a and resume normal business hours.
