Here's some fresh hydroseed down on this Cache Valley property.

That uniform green coverage across the hillside is the mulch layer protecting the seed underneath. It holds moisture, prevents erosion, and creates the ideal environment for germination.

From here, it all comes down to proper watering.

What is hydroseeding?

Here's the short version: hydroseeding is a planting method where seed, fertilizer, mulch, and a binding agent are mixed with water and sprayed directly onto prepared soil. It's faster than hand-seeding, more affordable than sod, and it works exceptionally well on slopes and large areas, exactly what we deal with here in northern Utah.

The result? Consistent coverage, better germination rates, and a lawn that establishes quickly and evenly.

After killing w**ds with Roundup, grading the slope, clearing rocks, and spreading fresh topsoil, and bringing in the pre-seeding tractor, it's finally time to hydroseed.

That bright green spray is a slurry of seed, fertilizer, mulch, and a tackifier that binds it all to the soil. The color helps us track even coverage across every inch of the property.

From here, the homeowner follows our watering instructions and soon enough they will have a healthy, full, green lawn.

It's time to bring in the tractor. 🚜

This is the pre-seeding prep phase. The pre-seeding tractor levels the ground, gets rid of debris, creates a soft soil texture, and loosens existing soil.

Getting all of this right before any seed goes down is what separates a lawn that actually thrives from one that struggles out of the gate. The seed needs good soil contact, good drainage, and a clean surface to establish.

Before we spray hydroseed, we kill every w**d on the property first. On this project, we applied Roundup and let it work for about a week and a half. Everything turned brown and dead. That's exactly what we want. Weeds compete with new grass for water, sunlight and nutrients. Killing them prior to hydroseed gives the grass a head start and helps the young grass mature faster with fewer w**ds and wild thick bladed grasses.

Every transformation starts with an honest look at what you've got.

This is a residential property in Cache Valley before we touched anything. Overgrown w**ds, rocky soil, and a hillside that needed a serious reset.

What you're about to see is a 3-week process: w**d kill, tractor prep, and hydroseeding. Three steps. One completely transformed yard.

Stay tuned.

Why aerate your lawn in the spring?

Spring aeration breaks up compacted soil, improves root access to water and nutrients, and supports thicker, healthier grass as the growing season begins.
