It took me 2.5 years to finally commit to going solar before I did. I researched everything. All the equipment, all the panels, vendors, installers, potential cost savings vs cost etc.
I have no idea why I wasted so much time. I guess I really thought it was a scam because it seemed too good to be true. How could I harvest God's sun and convert that to useable energy for my house and not pay for electricity?
Well it wasn't a scam at all. I'm sorry I waited so long and didn't do it sooner. It might be one of the best things I have done. I installed 31 Q Cell panels that are supposed to give me about 12.4 kw. I insisted that the panels I considered were made in the US. They have a 25 year warranty with them as well as the Enphase inverters etc. So I should be set for the next 25 years.
Fast forward 6 months of having the system and I'm extremely happy with what I have. I'm now over generating and banking credits with the electric company. Over the winter I was about even with what I produced and what I consumed because of the rainy weather and shorter days. Now the days are getting longer and the sky is a bit clearer I'm really producing the energy and I'm loving it!
If you haven't considered going solar you really should. I think if you send over $100-$125 per month on electric it is to your benefit to do it. Less than that I probably wouldn't. Either way though you still pay. You can either write a check to your electric company forever or you can finance a system and have it paid for. I figure it will take me 6-7 years of owning this system to be in the black. Not bad.
I can now crank the AC or run the heat as much as I like without thinking about usage. In addition to running as many LEDs as I want. Our home does not have any gas. Everything runs off of electric. The Heat, AC, Stove and Hot Water Heater, and Dryer are all electric.
