LPK Architects was selected to design new Spectator Seating for the Gulfport High School Baseball and Softball programs. As part of an overall master plan for the Herbert Wilson Recreation Complex, the new fully covered wrap around baseball grandstand with a new press box will seat approximately 500 fans including 80 chair back style seats behind home plate. The new softball seating will consist of nearly 240 all chair back style seats under fully covered grandstands along the home and visitor sides of the field. The open seating behind home plate will allow for standing room for recruiters and scouts as well as a view from the concession stand. All of the grandstands are elevated above field level to best maximize the spectators’ view of the action. These new facilities will provide for one of the best fan experiences in the entire region for both sports and best of all, this project is slated for completion for the upcoming 2022 spring seasons for each program. Go Admirals!

Neighborhood elementary schools are a critical aspect of thriving communities. LPK Architects is honored to have been selected to design the newest addition to Bayou View Elementary School in the heart of the Bayou View neighborhood in Gulfport, MS. These four new large state-of-the-art classrooms are each provided with two individual user restrooms, student and teacher storage, natural daylighting, and ample wall space for learning activities. Two large restrooms are being added to provide much needed facilities on the south side of the campus. And finally, a new outdoor learning lab will be the transition space from the existing building to the new addition and is one of the first of its kind in the Gulfport School District. These new spaces will welcome students during the 2022-2023 school year.

Walking into the newly opened seafood restaurant, Southern Pearl Oyster House feels like stepping into a fine dining eatery in New Orleans. Exposed brick, wrought-iron chandeliers, stained glass windows and a painting of Dr. John and a second line parade on the wall give the large space a classic Bi...

LPK Architects made a final presentation of the Meridian Master Plan to the City Council on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. The document is intended to guide the city forward into a brighter future for all residents through sustainable, planned development, particularly in the city’s historic downtown.

The presentation was the final piece of a complex planning project that involved multiple disciplines, including traffic engineers, historical architects, community planners, businesspeople, members of the public, and professional staff from the Community Development Department of the City of Meridian.

The four-phase project started under the leadership of Mayor Percy Bland and his administration in early 2017 with phase one, Data Collection and Identifying Goals. Each member of the City Council has been involved in the process as well as other stakeholders, including representatives from downtown businesses and members of the community at large. A community design charrette that year helped identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for Meridian and the surrounding area.

Next, the Analysis phase looked at natural and built assets of our community and included the results of a traffic study. The study was conducted by the Pickering Firm, a highly respected engineering firm selected by the city to analyze traffic volume and patterns as part of the Master Plan process.

Phase three, Concept Refinement, included input from the mayor and City Council, Lauderdale County, Mississippi State University-Meridian, the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation and local businesses, and community members and other stakeholders.

Finally came phase four, Plan Development. LPK and the administration developed a 10-year vision that provides direction over time. They designed the plan to be continually reinterpreted in light of new information that will inevitably result from the process of implementation and the development by architects, landscape architects and engineers of specific projects.

Using information from numerous studies during the process, LPK has provided a long-term framework utilizing all available resources to identify key moves that will make an immediate impact while allowing for long-term prosperity.

The Master Plan started rolling out in the spring of 2018 as LPK worked with the administration to prepare for the opening of Mississippi’s Arts + Entertainment Experience – The MAX. Implementation of the plan continues today as the city prepares for the planned Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian.

Those projects, along with Lauderdale County’s recent announcement of its intent to purchase of the old Village Fair Mall, show the importance of the Master Plan being a living document. It will evolve along with the city, guiding the way toward a better Meridian for all.

Tuesday we celebrated a ribbon cutting on the campus of Bayou View Middle School in Gulfport as the newest addition and renovation, designed by LPK Architects, was presented to the community. The project added a new Main Campus Entrance, 8 classrooms, restrooms, and an Art Lab. Safety and security were greatly improved with the addition of perimeter fencing as well as re-directed traffic flow in the car-rider drop off line.

We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a wonderful school and administration and look forward to seeing the students thrive in their new spaces at Bayou View Middle School.
