A great paintbrush is very important to getting a finish that looks professional. When choosing a brush, make sure to pay close attention to the bristles. Poly bristles are more stiff which makes them good for exterior or textured work. While synthetic brushes are made of either polyester, nylon, or even a combination of the two.

Tapered bristles help when working on the edge of something. Brushes range in size and are typically available in 1 to 4 inch widths. Do your research before you start painting and figure out which brush will go best with what you are hoping to accomplish!

When painting, always make sure to use a canvas drop cloth. This way, you won’t have spills go through to your floor. That is why using sheets is not always a good idea.

Canvas drop clothes absorb splatters and are much better to use than any other type of cloth. Also, always make sure you are wearing shoes that you don’t necessarily care about, just incase paint does spill onto them. Same goes for clothes.

Painting over wallpaper can be tricky, but these days, people like to switch things up a bit. If you are tired of that boring wall paper and would like to add some bright color to a room, here are some important tips you need to know. It is very important to prep before painting.

First, add clear caulk around the perimeter of the walls of the room you wish to paint. Second, cover the wallpaper with a coat of spackle. This will help smooth the service, that way; you won’t be able to see the wallpaper through the paint. Next, sand down the seams of the wallpaper. You will then want to apply a coat of oil based primer to the entire surface before painting. Now the wallpaper is ready to be painted over!

When painting a room, it is important to make sure the room is completely cleaned out before you start. You will also want to remove any nails from the wall and spackle any holes that are left.

Make sure to sand afterwards. Always dust along the doorways, windows, and baseboards as well. If you need to caulk along the trim, do so before you begin. Last but not least, tape off the room! Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape works very well. Now start painting!

Did you know when painting, it is very important to make sure you have the right tools, paint, and know which technique to use. For example, as obvious as it may sound, make sure to use a good quality brush. For painting trim and doors, a 2.5’’ angle brush is good to use, and when painting windows, a 2’’ sage brush is recommended.

It is also a great idea to use a good quality roller cover, because cheap ones tend to leave those little ‘fuzzies’ all over the place. If you find a color you like, you should probably check it out from different brands whether it be Benjamin Moore, Behr, or Sherwin Williams. The same color varies depending on the brand.
Furthermore, using a water-based paint is the best idea, as it dries quicker and cleans up easy with water. There are also no harsh fumes involved.
