On Friday, May 22, 2026 we met at Laurel Cove Amphitheater to continue our long and lovely tradition of making bouquets for all the queens, princesses and mini-princesses - over 80.

This year rain and wetness kept us inside the cabin on the hill, but we still enjoyed good company, great food and our own special mountain laurel flowers.

On Monday, April 27, 2026 our garden club visited Heather Lawson's Town Creek hydroponics near Harrogate in Speedwell. The greenhouse was amazing; large, well-organized and neat as a pin. Heather explained the rotation process of moving plants through different water channels, with larger separation between holes to allow for plant growth.

If you want to buy any of this beautiful lettuce, go to Harrogate Plant and Produce behind Hardee's in Harrogate. They have foodtrucks there, too.

Thank you, Heather, for showing us this special place.

Afterwards, our secretary, Patsy Barnett gave us a tour of the Lustron home she recently refurbished and redecorated. Lustron homes were built just after WWII and they are made completely of metal, inside and out. For pictures of the process, go to the fb page for Lustron #2170 at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61578612368495&locale=sv_SE # It's really neat!

April 18, 2026 found Ann, Shari and I on an adventure to Knoxville. We ran errands, ate some great tamales at "Good Golly Tamale" in the Old City. Then we drove to Gatop, (God's Answer to Our Prayers), a private garden open to the the public one weekend a year during The Dogwood Festival. It is beautiful. What do you think?

Tuesday, March 24, 2026 found Middlesborough Garden Club members taking a road trip to Corryton, TN to attend the 2nd annual Oakes Farm Tulip Festival. The beautiful sunny day just enhanced the rich colors of tulips growing everywhere.

Next we moved to the Washington Presbyterian Church Pavillion where we had sandwiches & cookies furnished by our hostesses; Sarah Ausmus, Sally Smith and Carol Stapleton.

Next we were treated to a surprise presentation by Julie Thompson of House Mountain Wormery & Gardens and Ann Bowen. Worm castings are a natural fertilizer, providing just enough nitrogen to keep from burning your plants.

We left with full bellies, tulips, worm castings and a memory of beautiful springtime tulips to make us smile.

Special thanks to Ann Madon and Shari Rose for the pictures!

On Tuesday, February 10, 2026 our Garden Club meeting was hosted by Angela Burch, Liz Gilley, Piddle Osborne, and Barbara Partin. We had ham sliders and chicken croissants, pasta and vegetables with dip, and chocolate mini cupcakes and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Beautiful and delicious.

We also elected next year's officers: President: Donna Smith; Vice-President: Sarah Ausmus; Secretary: Patsy Barnett; and Treasurer: Ann Shumate: Communications Director: Sally Smith. Congratulations, Ladies!

Next our new member, Cathy Waitinas, showed us to create a flower arrangement for the "Creative Design" category in flower shows. She brought lots of carnations, vases and materials often used in arrangements but unseen in the finished bouquet. We learned some tricks about keeping flowers steady, alive and presentable.

Our Valentine's meeting was wonderful. We left with full bellies, pretty flowers and a smile from playing with our friends.

Does anybody know the total number of Garden Club of Kentucky membership? I've been searching with no luck. It's a good time for amaryllis now.

On December 5, 2025, our garden club gathered at the Arthur Museum for "the hanging of the greens" and our annual Christmas party. The slight chill only made Christmas seem nearer so our work was quickly completed. The museum is now dressed for the season.

Our executive committee are always hostesses so Ann Madon (Exec. Pro Tem) made the chili, Donna furnished subway sandwiches, and Ann Shumate fixed her homemade chocolate sauce with whipped cream to cover our ice cream sandwich dessert. Everything was delicious!

We also played "dirty Santa" with gifts we brought from home. We had lots of fun and some people had their prizes snatched twice! We all enjoyed our time together. Merry Christmas!

November has been a busy month with our club gathering at St. Mary's to fill little stockings for the MIddlesboro Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Facility. There are ninety-two little presents headed their way soon.

Hostesses; Sharon Goodin, Susan Gulley, Carol Stapleton and Thornley Alexander served warm grilled cheese sandwiches, potato soup and Paul Newman cake. Thank you ladies, delicious.

Next, a an artistic group of ladies gathered Nov. 15th to decorate the Middlesborough Garden Club Tinsel Tree. It's so cute.

Several Middlesborough Garden Club members attended the Mountain Laurel District 78th Annual Meeting hosted by the Barborville Garden Club at the Knox County Cooperative Services building.

Our program, presented by Susan Throneberry, was all about bluebirds. Susan even gave away a couple of bluebird houses for a couple of lucky members.

Leaving Middlesboro at sunrise we drove through trees changing color every day. We arrived to coffee, sweet breads and friendly faces. Then we listened to lots of reports and took care of other business. We adjourned to lunch of warm chili, chicken noodle soup, and pies! Thank you Barbourville for your gracious hospitality.
