Update as of 9/10:
Four months in between stewardship and maintenance the black berry and other invasive species have returned to the planting area. I was able to do some brush cutting, but there is a lot more to do. Will be scheduling a volunteer stewardship day for the end of this month. I will post information and dates for it soon. Here are some pictures of this past weekends work, before and afters. Thank you all for help and support for this restoration project.

Update as of 3/7:
Over the weekend we planted 75 new plants. This included Black cottonwoods, Beaked hazelnut, Blad-hip rose, Pacific rhododendron, and Pacific madrone. Also, did some general site maintenance. A mature Black cottonwood came down over the winter. Half fell into the creek avoiding the planting area. But unfortunately half fell onto the fence surrounding the storm water mitigation pond. Thank you to all the volunteers!

Update as of 12/19

Went to the project site just to clean up some of the previously cut blackberry cane and do some plant monitoring. From the recent heavy rainfall and high winds, some of the snags have come down. In previous years these snags would have just fallen on top of the blackberry and not have been benifical to native growth. Now because of the removal of the blackberry, these fallen snags will be used for habitat for animals, insects, and fungus! As well as introduce nutrients back into the soil for continued native plant growth! Always great to see how dynamic nature can be, but also have to acknowledge the potential hazards sites like this can have. Again, thank you to all the people who have made this progress possible!

Sorry I don't post much, I don't use Facebook much. Thought this would be a great time for an update! Update as of 11/6:...

Update as of 11/6:

Did some general fall maitence with the help of a newly purchased brush cutter and help from volunteers! After cutting down the blackberry growth from over the summer, we were able to dig out some more of the blackberry roots. This also allowed the plants to have some room to continue to establish over the fall and winter. Thank you again to all your help and effort to make this progress possible!

Update as of 7/10:

Over the past couple months, volunteers have assisted in removal of blackberry roots. Over the last weekend we cut a majority of new blackberry canes to free the plants of competition for sunlight. After 11 months the site is looking great! Thank you for all the help and support!

December 19th @ 10am will be the first phase of planting. I would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to get the site ready for this stage of the project and the Snohomish Conservation District with helping to supply native plants. Also, I would like to remind everyone who would like to come out to be aware of Washington state Covid-19 guidelines. Masks, social distancing, and limiting shared items are encouraged during this event. Thank you!

We have a new addition of large wood debris on site. After the heavy rainfall a Maple of about 100ft fell into the creek. Creating new stream dynamics and Salmon habitat.
