Years ago I lived in a nice quiet neighborhood surrounded by seniors, retirees, and people who mostly owned their own homes. I watched so many times that those people hired a "neighbor" or "someone's brother" to work on their house and that person did sub-par work. They would eventually have to hire someone else, usually me, to do the job right. I never liked to see people get ripped off, and I hate it even now even more that I am in that age bracket.
