For those of you who follow us the time has come for processing da piggy. Not sure what the final weight was but she rendered 50 # ground sausage, 20 packs of bacon,15 hams, 5 packs of ribs, 1 Boston butt, a few other cuts and a whole lotta lard! Would we do it all again. Absolutely not! Was the price about the same as buying it from another local farmer. Yes. Thanks for asking.. another lesson learned on the homestead. You can raise a pig for food but should you? Prolly not… 😂 The feeding 3 times a day, the horrindous stench from her pin, the keeping her from escaping, trying to make indestructible-feeding bins/waterers, and the loading her into the trailer were all very challenging and took a team effort for 5 months that we had her. Our deep freezer is full though. So yeah. The end result is definitely better than the beginning for us. We’ll check that off the bucket list. Until the next adventure… Thanks for tuning in and have a great weekend y’all!

Update: The pig is getting BIG, y’all. She managed to get out of her enclosure and rummaged the yard, pulling up weeds, and communing with the chickens. Now she has a bigger pin. 2 more months ‘til Chris P Bacon. The kitten, Hazelnut Marie also gets out and terrorizes the chickens who enjoy melon rinds in their spare time. Our garden didn’t fare so well this year but we managed to make a few oils and butters. Dandy oil, Lilac oil, and peach butter. Rose of Sharon in full bloom! Looking forward to the amazingly beautiful colors of Fall and cooler temperatures. Enjoy the photos. Thanks for following us.
