1. Damage to Foundation
Your rain gutters have an essential task: to direct water from your roof away from your homes foundation. If a gutter becomes clogged, the water can get stuck, or worse, spill out closer to your home’s foundation.
Why is this a big deal? Well ,water coming into contact with your foundation can cause problematic cracks over time leading to a failing foundation which literally can cause a crumbling home!
2. Ice Dams
When it’s cold, ice dams or blockages of frozen water can form in your gutters, notably if that gutter hasn’t been recently cleaned of leaves and debris. The debris makes it much easier for ice to form causing ice dams.
You might not think as ice as a problem living in Wyoming, but it is especially when it starts to melt. When it does, that water has to go somewhere and chances are that means seeping into your roof and your walls, putting you at risk of mold, rot, and structural damage.
3. Pest Problems
When your gutters are clogged it creates standing water, a great habitat for mosquitoes and other pests. This wet environment of gross gutter water is their reproductive paradise. And they aren’t the only ones who loves this environment.
If this has caused rotting wood, it becomes an irresistible place for insects including termites and carpenter ants who live in and make a meal of wet, wooden environments. If not taken care of a termite infestation can cause serious structural damage to your home.
