🤩 What a transformation!

The new tile really brightens up the room, along with the new vanity for more storage space. They went with brushed nickel finish for the faucet and cabinet handles. A great step up from what they had before, they’re super excited! 😊

❓What is dry fitting tile and why is it important❓

🙋‍♂️Dry fitting tile is laying the tiles down without adhesive to determine cuts and to confirm you have enough tile.

1️⃣As you can see, the tile the customer chose has a pattern that could throw the room out of wack if not installed specifically. Dry fitting is a necessary step in any aplication though.

2️⃣While you are laying the tile out and dry fitting them, it will give you a good sense of how much you have as well. Things happen, mis-cut, drop one, accidentally step on one. You always want to order 15-20% over what your square footage is in your space to assure you have enough to cover the area appropriately.

We got our Underlayment up to find beautiful hard wood floors. They don’t make ‘em like they used too.

Replaced the damaged area and got our new Underlayment down. Proper Underlayment for tile can be a cement backer board (which we’re using for this application) or even the schluter kerdi foam board that we’ve used in the past for showers and flooring.

All prepped to start cutting and dry fitting our tile.

While we wait for the other contractors to do their work on the sun porch to bathroom conversion, we’re staying busy with a bathroom floor replacement.

📧 I received an inquiry about some tiles next to the tub that had missing grout and could be pushed down into the floor. I’ve seen tiles come UP, but DOWN?

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ll say it again. ‼️NEVER EVER EVER, adhere tile to wood‼️ Wood retains moisture and the adhesive will always be wet just enough that the tiles won’t last.

We got the tile out, now we need to remove the wood underlayment and hope our subfloor is in decent condition. It looks like there won’t be too much subfloor to replace 🤞🏼

📣 We’re making some progress! The shower will be going where the square plywood is on the floor. The sink will be going in the corner across from that. Pocket door in the center, dividing the space into two rooms. Toilet will be next to the shower and next to that will be a stacked washer and dryer.

We’ve got our window 🪟 removed and framed in where the shower will be and we’ve framed out our pocket door 🚪

Now we wait for the electrician and plumber to run their work throughout the walls and ceiling before we return.

Can you imagine the convenience this will bring? Adding another full bath, on the first floor, and relocating the washer and dryer up from the basement to the first floor. I don’t know about you but, not going down to the basement for laundry 🧺 sold me 😂

📣 If you’ve followed Handy Dad for a while, you might remember in September/October 2023, we were called in by a new Milton homeowner that had a termite issue in their three season porch area. We removed the floor completely down to the patio, but…

Unfortunately, it turned into a can of worms 😩 The damage from the termites was too extensive and needed a lot more attention than what was expected (the joys of homeownership, right?)

Exterminator came in and took care of the problem and the homeowner took some time to think about what they wanted to do with their space.

This is a late 1920’s home with only one ☝️ bathroom which is upstairs. They’ve finally made a decision to use this area as a second bathroom. 😃
