Good morning. Looks to be a beautiful day. Wanted to remind everyone a great source for native plants is the Dyck Arboretum in Hesston KS. Their spring Plant Sale is the weekend of April 26-28. Their website is dyckarboretum.org. Enjoying my gardens. Virginia Bluebells are just getting going. Planted 10-15 roots over 20 years ago and have a wonderful patch.

After 25 years, I have closed Grassland Gardens. I am going to keep this page so can post garden photos and plant info that may be of interest to gardeners. Wanted to let you know The Dyck Arboretum in Hesston, KS sells many of the plants I did in their Spring and Fall plant sales. They just had their spring weekend sale last weekend but know you can make an appointment to shop. Hopefully, more nurseries will start to sell drought tolerant, native, and pollinators. If you want to read a book about what to plant in our yards, I would recommend Nature’s Best Hope - A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard by Doug Tallamay. His idea of all our yards together can make a real difference is just so common sense. Also, John Nobert is starting Elk Creek Gardens 2.0 in Clyde. I’m sure it would be worth checking him out. I have always been so grateful for all the surrounding local support (for the most part a 60 mile radius) that Grassland Gardens received. Thank you & Happy Gardening!

Since I was in the Lincoln Nebraska area, I also checked out Sunken Gardens (2600 D Street). I’ve seen it several times at different stages of growth through the years. Definitely worth a stop if you are in or near Lincoln. Yes, a lot of annuals, but such a beautiful public space. There is no admission charge.

Have worked with this couple in Nebraska the last 4 years. They have done an amazing job. Their average home lot space includes a front lawn full of native grasses and perennials that continues in the back along with a rain harvesting system, raised bed vegetable garden, herb garden, official weather station (no photo), and even a fun homemade wagon:platform for succulents. A very small bit of lawn is retained to give a neat appearance . A few non invasive plants. All done extremely artistically (large arc of Little Bluestem in front yard was genius Don!). Enjoyed my visit Saturday on the area garden tour.

Another reason to grow lots of parsley, dill, and fennel to share as well as eat. Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillar. Started this parsley from seed indoors so would have lots of plants. Was not difficult to germinate.

Enjoyed a visit from the Miltonvale/Glasco summer program this morning. They are growing gardens!
