How to prep wood cabinet doors for paint.
2 steps that makes a difference.
Step 1: Sand. This removes any scuffs, imperfections, or splatters that may have gotten stuck on the wood. Also removes the finish coat, if any, so the paint doesn't slip right off.
Step 2: Wipe down with denatured alcohol. This step is important. Even if you didn't need to sand, you still need to wipe. This removes the dust from sanding off the surface of the door and any finish coat that you did not get to with sanding. If you did not sand prior, this will remove any stuck on debris and slightly tack up the surface of finish coat so the primer doesn't slip right off.
This will result in a smooth paint finish that will last. Don't forget to prime before you paint.
