A few weeks ago I wrote about the wreaths my grandmother made using all natural materials she gathered throughout the year. I knew I had one that she made for me my first Christmas in my house (1976). It hung in the dining room for years. When we remodeled in 1990 the wreath was taken down, boxed up and I lost track of it. After I wrote the post I started looking for it. Yesterday I found it in the attic! I had to replace the twine to hang it, the red paint on the gourd is scratched and some of the hickory nuts are cracked but the devil's claws are intact.
And I am flooded with memories of my grandparents...

My grandmother loved everything about Christmas. Every fall she would gather pine cones and acorns, hickory nuts and seed pods. Grandpa wold varnish them and drill small holes in them so grandma could make her creations. Everything was wired onto a wood circle (no glue guns back then). I think my grandmother invented wire ribbon. She wanted puffy bows so she would sew wire onto lengths of fabric that she had starched. It really made her creations so pretty. Of course she had to have color so pretty ornaments would be wired on too. Even though I got a lot of scratches from the wire, I really liked helping grandma. I still love making Christmas decorations and thank goodness for glue guns! I add my own touches...like the hand painted snowmen and lights. I've listed these on Facebook marketplace for $30/each or $50 for the pair.

When I was a little girl one of my favorite places to be was curled up on my grandmother's lap listening to her read to me. She introduced me to Tom Sawyer and Laura Engalls Wilder. She loved Joyce Kilmer and, of course, Bible stories. This was grandma's chair...a gooseneck platform rocker. She read to my children in this same chair and I read to my grandchildren. It still has the original upholstery - a little faded but in good shape. It's time for another family to read to their little ones from this chair. I've posted it on Facebook marketplace for $100

I had amazing role models. My grandmother and my mother taught me so much. Some things made sense immediately...pulling a few weeds every day is less work than just once a week. Patience...I'm still working on that. These lovely women would drop everything to help someone.
I had to abandon my greenhouse for the last ten days because a family member needed help. No plants were watered and no weeds were pulled. But I feel good.
I can almost see mom and grandma smiling at me saying "well done". And I can sincerely respond "lesson learned".
All the flowering pots are 1/2 off and the vegetable plants are free

We played outside. During the summer from eay morning until long after dark. And occasionally we'd get stung by a bee but it never stopped us from going barefoot! My grandmother had Halls honeysuckle growing all over her farm. It's lovely sweet smell permeates the air and attract bees. I have honeysuckle that came from the farm. I know a lot of people say it is invasive but I love it. These are some of our bee themed birdhouses. And my latest bee hotel. Stop by at 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge. You'll be able to smell the honeysuckle as soon as you get out of your car!

My grandmother fed wildlife. She planted sunflowers in the fields and put out salt licks. She had numerous birdfeeders and birdhouses around the yard. She said it was easier to provide a comfort zone for the deer in the woods and fields than it was to fight them in the vegetable garden. Jack got me up early this morning. He spotted these guys at the edge of the woods. I tried to take a photo through the window. I've put out corn feeders and salt licks in the woods to try to keep the deer out of the hostas but they get brave at night sometimes and trim the hostas. I still have feeders and birdhouses. Visit at 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge. I'll be here all day today

I enjoy art and my two biggest supporters were my grandmother and my father. I never wanted for art supplies because that was their go to Christmas and birthday gift. Grandma would ask for specific things...a painting of a covered bridge or a cardinal. Dad was less specific...he said he wanted a mural on the porch wall...whatever inspired me. So many people have responded to my bee herb boxes and birdhouses that I decided to paint some bee canvasses. I found some shimmer paint and thought it would be perfect for dragonfly wings. The paintings are $20 each or $30 for a pair. 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge. Since it is a rainy day, pm me to make sure I'm outside

We may not remember all their names but we must remember and honor their sacrifice. My grandmother always had a memorial day picnic. We would help her plant little flags along her long driveway. She used red, white and blue tablecloths. And she wrote every name of every relative she knew that had sacrificed for our country on a big poster board. The family would tell stories of great uncle Utley who is buried in Flanders Field. They'd talk of my aunt's husband who served in Viet Nam. And we'd have fun. Backyard baseball games, jarts, laughter. But we started the day remembering how and why we had the freedom to be so happy.
I had made this rustic barn birdhouse and was trying to figure out how to decorate it. Then I remembered what day it is so I added the flag.
I'll be here all day at 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge. I have this birdhouse and several others, as well as feeders and lots of plants. If I'm not outside just pm me when you get here

My grandmother would tuck feverfew into empty pockets in her garden. She loved the dainty little flowers the bloom in late May and all through June. Although grandma loved brightly colored flowers, she said if you don't temper the cacophony of color with some soothing white your eye will be overwhelmed. I actually learned a lot about art from my grandmother's gardens. I have lots of feverfew and will sell it by the box ($6). Visit at 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge- it's a great day to plant!

My grandmother was a perennial gardener. She used annuals to tuck in among her perennials to add a little pop of color. Petunias were one of her favorite annuals. Now, because I enjoy so much shade, I lean to impatiens for my annual blossoms to tuck into pots. Like grandma I love perennials - even in my pots. Stop out at 1530 Ohltown McDonald Road Mineral Ridge to see our mixed pots. We have plenty if hostas and ferns left
