Custom Home Office Storage Ideas | Organized Workspace Design for Productivity

The Fremont office was designed to support focus, productivity, and calm through thoughtful finishes and customized storage. From concealed printer storage on a rollout shelf to dedicated file organization and integrated cabinetry, every detail was planned to keep visual clutter at bay while ensuring everyday essentials remain within easy reach.

Sadie approves!

Here's to a productive week ahead, with calm and focus and everything in it's place.

What is the one thing in your office that never seems to have a proper place?

Entryway Before & After | Luxury Foyer Transformation Through Thoughtful Design

First impressions matter.

When we first walked into this home, the entry felt disconnected and visually busy. Large columns, multiple openings, and competing architectural elements made it difficult for the space to feel cohesive or welcoming.

Through thoughtful design and strategic editing, we simplified the architecture and created a much stronger focal point. The result is an entry that feels brighter, calmer, and more intentional, one that guides you into the home rather than distracting from it.

This transformation is a perfect reminder that great design isn't always about adding more. Often, it's about removing distractions, refining what exists, and allowing the right elements to shine.

Swipe to see the before.

Hidden Appliance Storage Ideas | Appliance Garages for a Clutter-Free Kitchen

The Request: Easy access to small appliances, but keep them out of sight without sacrificing valuable counter space.

The Solution: An extra-wide appliance cabinet with tuck-away doors.

This clever storage feature allows everyday appliances like coffee makers, toasters, and mixers to remain plugged in and ready to use while keeping countertops clean and uncluttered. When the doors are open, the countertop inside functions just like any other work surface. When you're finished, simply close the doors and everything disappears.

It's one of our favorite ways to balance beauty and functionality because a kitchen can work hard without looking busy.

The Lexington and Franklin Kitchens are two of our favorite examples of this approach.

Tell us: Are you firmly in the "nothing on the countertop" camp? Would an appliance garage like this be the perfect compromise? πŸ‘‡ I seriously want to know!

A Fond Farewell to Leah

The time has come for us to say a heartfelt goodbye to our dear Leah.

Today, after more than five years of working alongside this brilliant designer and wonderful friend, Leah is embarking on her next adventure. While we are incredibly excited for what lies ahead, it is impossible to put into words how much we will miss her.

These years together as a team of four have been something truly special. Through countless projects, deadlines, celebrations, travels, and everyday moments, Leah has been a constant source of creativity, thoughtfulness, kindness, and unwavering dedication. Her fierce design instincts and generous spirit have left an indelible mark on our team, our clients, and our work.

Leah, thank you. Thank you for your friendship, your talent, your humor, your perspective, and for being exactly who you are. Kate Roos Design will not be the same without you.

Please join us in wishing Leah all the best as she begins this exciting new chapter. We know she will do extraordinary things.

And Leah, this is not goodbye, it's simply "see you soon." Because let's be honest, there's a very good chance we'll all be showing up on your doorstep before long because we miss you too much. ❀️

In honor of Leah's last day, Kate Roos Design will be closed today as we head out for one final team adventure together.

Cheers to Leah and the next chapter ahead. πŸ₯‚

Primary Bathroom Remodel Before & After | Luxury Bath Renovation & Space Planning

Raise your hand if you have a giant jetted tub taking up prime real estate in your bathroom. βœ‹

Many homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s were designed around oversized tubs that often went unused, while the features homeowners actually wanted were left competing for space.

That was exactly the case in the Morningside Primary Bath.

Through thoughtful space planning, we completely reimagined the layout, transforming a dated bath into a serene retreat. By removing the oversized tub, we were able to create a luxurious steam shower, his-and-hers vanities, and even carve out space for a large walk-in linen closet (not pictured).

The best renovations aren't always about adding square footage. Sometimes they're about making every square foot work harder.

Better function. Better form. A better way to live every day.

EuroCucina at Milan Design Week | Luxury Kitchen Design Trends from Italy

Our trip to Milan may already be in the rearview mirror, but the inspiration is still very much with us.

One of the highlights of the week was EuroCucina, where the future of kitchen design was on full display. Innovative materials and beautifully integrated appliances, so many thoughtful details that we get to tuck away for the future.

Enjoy this minute-and-a-half glimpse into one of the most inspiring design events we have ever been to. 😍

And while we miss the incredible design, if we're being honest, we also miss ending each day with a stop at the Prosecco Bar. πŸ₯‚

Salute, Milan. Until next time.

Where to Splurge in Your Home Renovation | Luxury Design Details Worth the Investment

Not every element in a renovation needs to carry the same weight, but certain details have the power to completely elevate a space. Not everyone has the same priorities, so here are a few ideas to get you started.

If you are deciding where to invest, here are a few areas that make the biggest impact:

Hardware - The jewelry of the home. Solid brass hardware develops character over time and adds a sense of quality you feel every single day.

Lighting - Beautiful lighting transforms a room emotionally and architecturally. Layered, thoughtfully selected fixtures create warmth, mood, and depth.

Countertops - Natural stone brings richness, movement, and timeless beauty that is difficult to replicate.

Tile - Whether it’s handmade texture, a custom pattern, or a statement installation, tile is an opportunity to create artistry within a space.

Details & Craftsmanship - The little things matter. Custom millwork, thoughtful storage, tailored proportions, and quality materials are often what separate a good renovation from an exceptional one.

The secret is balance, knowing where to simplify and where to lean into quality for maximum impact and longevity.

What Too Many Forget to Budget for in a Luxury Renovation | Understanding The True All-In Cost

Everyone remembers to budget for cabinetry, countertops, and appliances… but some of the most important finishing layers are often overlooked.

Here are a few of the biggest budget surprises we see:

Window Treatments - Custom drapery, shades, and hardware add softness, privacy, light control, and an essential finished feeling to a home.
Typical investment: $500–$3,000+ per window depending on scale and complexity.

Furnishings - Renovating often changes the scale and flow of a space, meaning existing furniture may no longer fit aesthetically or functionally.
Typical investment: $15,000–$100,000+ depending on the scope of furnishings needed.

Counter Stools - They are used every day and deserve to be comfortable, durable, and thoughtfully proportioned. Quality seating makes a huge difference.
Typical investment: $400–$2,000+ per stool or chair.

Accessories & Styling - Artwork, pillows, lighting, greenery, and decorative objects are what bring warmth, personality, and life to a finished space.
Typical investment: $5,000–$25,000+ depending on the size of the home and level of styling.

These final layers are often what transform a renovation from β€œnew” to truly complete. Planning for them early helps create a home that feels cohesive, elevated, and fully realized from day one.

One of the most valuable parts of our process is helping clients understand the true all-in investment from the beginning. We walk through every layer of the budget together, from construction to furnishings and finishing details, so there are fewer surprises and better decisions along the way.
