There’s something truly special about bringing a client’s vision to life.

What began as a simple request for a backyard fire pit evolved into something far more extraordinary. As the first phase of this project unfolded, an opportunity emerged to create a secluded, sunken fire feature tucked into the landscape — overlooking a breathtaking gorge and sweeping views of the Mississippi River.

Using a thoughtful blend of Superior Trap stone, granite outcroppings, and natural materials that complement the surrounding environment, our Build Team crafted a destination that feels as though it has always belonged here.

One of our favorite parts of the design-build process is discovering opportunities like these and helping clients realize possibilities they never imagined.

Stay tuned as the next phase of this remarkable project takes shape. We can’t wait to share more of this beautiful biota.

Happy World Environment Day! 🌎 This day is a reminder of why we do what we do, and a chance to share some of what that actually looks like on the ground.

As a Certified B Corp landscaping company, sustainability isn't a feature we offer. It's how we operate. Here's a look at some of the environmental initiatives woven into every project and every workday at biota:

🌱Green mulch — we use low-growing plants to cover bare areas, hold moisture, and smother weeds. A living, ecological alternative to annual hardwood mulch applications.
🌱Pollinator habitat — from gabion walls and bug hotels to native plantings and prairie restoration, we create spaces where pollinators can thrive.
🌱Edible gardens — we help families design their own Victory Gardens so fresh produce is right outside the door all growing season.
🌱Solar-powered operations — our facility runs entirely on solar, including charging all of our battery-operated equipment. No emissions. No noise.

Our allium garden is officially in bloom ✨🐝 Bees love this member of the onion family, known for its nectar-rich blooms and pollinator-friendly flowers.

Today is National Bee Day, making it the perfect time to celebrate these essential pollinators. Bees help pollinate roughly 75% of flowering plants, and Minnesota is home to more than 500 native bee species.

We love seeing gardens designed not only for beauty, but for biodiversity too.
