We are so excited that Sumner Library was selected as a feature in Library Journal 2025 Design Trends: Sustainable Choices.

LSE Architects, Inc. worked closely with Hennepin County and our consultant team to select upgrade the mechanical system to electric heat pumps, refurbish original wood windows with new seals, and add site stormwater infiltration basins that will result in an 80% reduction in energy use from the B3 baseline and reduce the risk of flooding during rain events - making it one of the most sustainable historic buildings in Minnesota. We also created a new children and teen area, added new sound mitigation, and new meeting and study spaces that align with today's library needs, all while maintaining the historic look and feel of the over 100-year-old Carnegie Library.

On the boards: The Community Performing Arts Center, an outdoor music amphitheater for the Upper Harbor Terminal site along the Mississippi River, a partnership between Minnesota Orchestra and First Avenue & 7th St Entry.

The Upper Harbor Terminal redevelopment's Community Performing Arts Center will be an 8,000-seat amphitheater along the Mississippi River.
