New features will enhance Minot’s Roosevelt Park and Zoo upon completion of Phase Mi-7 of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project. Construction of this phase is anticipated to be complete in 2028.

Ackerman-Estvold’s Patrick Samson, PE, recently explained the newest feature currently being installed in the following article.

When the Magic City Express miniature train returns to operations in Roosevelt Park in the future, there will be a new experience awaiting those onboard. A box culvert-sized tunnel, currently being installed, will be a passageway for the train, operated by the Railroad Museum of Minot, to go through...

😃🚂Here is something you don't see often! 🚂😃

As construction continues on Phase Mi-7 (Roosevelt Park and Zoo) of the Mouse River Plan in Minot, ND, a unique structural element is being installed this week.

This box culvert sized tunnel will provide a passageway for the Magic City Express miniature train to pass through. For those familiar with Roosevelt Park Zoo and Roosevelt Park in Minot, the beloved train is set to make a comeback upon completion of the flood-wall and re-opening of the park.

TOOT TOOT! We are excited for that! And we were excited to design this great feature into the plans for the park. It is supplied by Contech Engineered Solutions.

Important information about traffic routes through MREFPP Mi-6 and Mi-7 construction as the Minot Parks Roosevelt Park Pool opens for the season tomorrow!

Big things are happening this week with the opening of Roosevelt Park Pool for the season on Friday, June 5th, we definitely missed this attraction last summer but a lot of work was accomplished on Phases MI-6 and MI-7 of the MREFPP to keep things moving on these projects. Please notice the temporary traffic route from June 5th through June 18th due to continued work in the park on paving.

You will enter off 8th Street SE, into the park entrance, and will follow the paved road on the west side of Roosevelt Pool past the Pool House (pool entrance) and into the parking lot on the north side of the pickleball courts. You will exit along the same route, but will follow the gravel portion of the roadway. This route is the way you will both enter and exit the area for parking and access to the pool and pickleball courts. There is two-way traffic on the road in and out so please use slower speeds and look for pedestrians.

Please keep in mind within these areas there are still active construction zones. There will be a marked pedestrian crossing on the shared roadway, always be prepared to stop for pedestrians using these crossing. Please be alert, obey traffic signs, keep speeds slow, and do not enter any restricted areas. Be safe and have fun in the 🛝🏊‍♀️💦

Construction is still active on the City of Minot Storm Sewer District 121, Puppy Dog Coulee Improvement Project and will continue throughout the summer.

Information from the The City of Minot:

Storm sewer work on Phase 7A and will result in a partial closure on 24th Ave SW. The closure will impact the Highlands Plaza parking lot and 24th Ave SW between 15th St SW and Mall Loop Road.

🚶‍♀️🚶🚶‍♂️** Businesses in Highlands Plaza will remain accessible to pedestrians.** 🚶‍♀️‍➡️🚶‍➡️🚶‍♂️‍➡️

Traffic will be detoured to 22nd Ave SW.

A temporary traffic shift on 16th St SW is also tentatively scheduled as crews begin work in Phase 9. Drivers should expect changing traffic patterns during this transition as vehicle traffic is routed to a temporary bypass configuration. No left turns will be allowed from 24th Ave SW onto 16th St SW during this phase. During this phase there will continue to be no left turns allowed on to or off of Parkside Dr SW nor 26th Ave SW from 16th St SW.

Here is an updated overhead look of the project.

This week we welcomed back Alex Hamman to our architecture team. Alex is a great example of turning a summer internship into a full-time career. While attending NDSU in Fargo, ND, she joined our team in the Fargo office as an architecture intern. Upon graduation this spring, she chose to move to the Minot and will take her place as a full-time Project Designer. Welcome back, Alex!
