Saturday, June 20th, marked the inaugural session of our saddle restoration, and future leather crafting classes at our new Nevada City-Cascade Shores location, which I anticipate will be the first of many.

We initiated the program with a small, select group consisting of a husband and wife team, José and Beth Olagues of Auburn, who were keen to acquire comprehensive skills in Saddle Restoration.

The couple brought three saddles, each presenting distinct challenges, allowing us to focus on the one that offered the most valuable learning opportunities.

Over the course of eight hours, our instruction and demonstrations yielded impressive results, as José and Beth gained hands-on experience and newfound confidence in performing thorough 'Deep Cleaning & Conditioning' on any given saddle.

The impacts of their focus, through expert instruction was remarkable. I extend my gratitude to Beth and José for dedicating a full day from their busy home remodeling schedule to this endeavor, which is sure to be just the beginning of a lengthy friendship.

As a succession to my previous post regarding the Pocket Watch Fob set, found at the Grass Valley-Old West Antique Show. I recently purchased a 'G.S. Garcia, Elko Nevada' Fob from a collector based in South Dakota.

My selection was driven by the desire to own a piece crafted by a semi-local saddle maker with whom I have considerable familiarity. Additionally, I created a simple connection thong for a watch I’ve owned for decades, basically reserved for special equine events.

This project is likely to be one that most leather crafters would not ever to be asked to undertake, throughout their entire careers.

However, given my affinity for challenges, I recently completed a partially tooled ‘Arborist Tree Climbing Harness’. Finished yesterday afternoon.

The construction utilized leather scraps, nylon webbing, and hardware sourced from my workshop, all brought together without a pattern but rather guided by an understanding of the functional requirements utilized by arborists.

I was privileged to have been invited to attend, exhibit and present at ‘Simply Country's’ annual “Celebration of the Horse” event last Saturday.
The arena presenters delivered engaging educational talks and demonstrations focused on equine health and fostering a deeper connection with horses. Not to mention some Trick Riding stunts and Trick Roping entertainment towards the day’s end.

My apologies to most of the morning presenter for not capturing images of your presentations, My booth visitors kept me otherwise detained.

A day filled with fun conversations, raffle giveaways, talented clinician talks and demonstrations, entertainment and scrumptious grilled on-sight food. Doesn’t get any better than that!

God willing, we’ll see you there next April 2027.
