It's September already! So what's blooming now?

It's great to have overlapping bloom times. Not only for all seasons interest, but especially for this time of year when Monarchs are traveling south, and other pollinators need nectar sources to prepare for winter.

General good choices for this time of year are Symphyotrichum (Asters), Solidago or Oligoneuron (Goldenrods), Vernonia (Ironweeds).

Pictured:
Ageratina altissima (White Snakeroot)
Conoclinium coelestinum (Mistflower)
Helenium autumnale (Sneezeweed)
Helianthus mollis (Downy Sunflower)
Symphyotrichum ericoides (Heath Aster)
Silene stellata (Starry Campion)
Sporobolus heterolepis (Prairie Dropseed)

Ran into more pollinators doing their thing on Silphium perfoliatum (Cup Plant). It really is a nice moment with cheery colors.

It's been three years since we opened our retail shop to all the wonderful people that love and plant natives in their yards. We've made some changes from our original setup, but we thought we'd share some pictures from our first ever day open to the public. Thank you all for making your way to Possibility Place and we hope to see you here again!

With so much focus on Spring & Summer planting, it can be easy to forget about planting for Fall. But it's important to have late blooming natives in the garden too. Pollinators still need a nectar source late into the season as they prepare for migration or hibernation. 🦋🍂

When we say "Fall blooms", most people think of Asters or Goldenrods. But there are so many more! 🌻

We also love to throw in Conoclinium coelestinum (Mist Flower), Coreopsis tripteris (Tall Coreopsis), Hamamelis virginiana (Common Witchhazel), Physostegia virginiana (Obedient Plant), and Vernonia spp. (Ironweeds).

Come in-person to explore the fall blooms!
