So very happy to announce this piece is finally done! A lot of things were learned on this piece. First, if you are going to modify a piece, do that first before you paint. Second, just because a piece is giving you fits, it doesn’t mean you should stop refinishing furniture.
I’ve included a before pic but please don’t come after me. I don’t paint everything. Some pieces should not be touched. Unfortunately, the right upper door was severely warped. The glass broke. The middle wood piece fell apart in my hands. I tried making another door, but it just didn’t work right. I also wanted to be able to see the wallpaper in the back of the piece.

Dixie Belle Bonding Boss in gray was applied first. Paint is Dixie Belle Caviar. Stain is Dixie Belle Walnut. Dixie Belle Flat top coat was used. Dixie Belle copper gilding wax was used on the embellishments (hinges).
Side note: When painting a dark color, especially black, flat top coat is best because the shinier it is, the more light it reflects and makes the finish hazy looking. Also, when painting with black, put a drop or two of black paint in your top coat. No streaks and won’t look hazy.

Sometimes you have to drop back and punt on a piece that you are redoing because it just isn’t happening. The doors were just too wonky, the glass in the middle broke, along with the wood scroll piece behind the glass.
Sooooo, this beauty will not have the top doors and be open. That way the beautiful wallpaper on the back will be visible. I hate that I lose the top hardware, but it will be good this way…I promise. I am excited to get done with her and show you!!!
