DIY Tip Tuesday: Water Heater Maintenance 💧🔧
Keep your hot water flowing and help extend the life of your water heater with a few simple maintenance tips! 🛠️
✅ Flush the Tank Once a Year
Sediment buildup can reduce efficiency and damage your heater over time. Drain a few gallons — or flush the entire tank — to keep it running smoothly.
✅ Check the Temperature Setting
Set your thermostat to 120°F for a good balance of comfort, safety, and energy savings.
✅ Inspect for Leaks & Rust
Look around the base, valves, and connections for moisture, corrosion, or rust spots before they become bigger problems.
✅ Test the Pressure Relief Valve
Lift the T&P valve lever briefly to make sure it releases water properly. This helps prevent dangerous pressure buildup.
✅ Replace the Anode Rod
This “sacrificial rod” helps prevent tank corrosion. Checking it every few years can add years to your water heater’s life.
⚠️ Always turn off power or gas to the unit before performing maintenance.
