Our gardens are nature’s rest stop.

Fall migration is beginning, and birds traveling south need places to rest and refuel along the way. That makes the native plants in our Louisiana landscapes especially important.

Native plants can provide migrating birds with:
🌱Insects and caterpillars for protein
🌱Berries and fruits for energy
🌱Seeds from spent flowers and grasses
🌱Nectar for migrating hummingbirds
🌱Dense vegetation for shelter and rest

And this is a good reason not to tidy everything up as summer ends. Leave seed heads standing. Let native berries remain for wildlife. Keep some leaf litter and the insects it supports.

Bonus Tip: Turn out those lights to help those migrating find their way.

A native garden isn't only habitat for the wildlife that lives in Louisiana year-round, it is also for those passing through.
