My Refuge House is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit ministry that provides a safe home to empower and restore survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and abuse. My Refuge House can only restore lives with the help of generous donations from people like you. Without the gifts we receive, young children would not have a safe, loving and nurturing place to find healing and restoration after they are

rescued. Are you an avid runner, biker or even Zumba enthusiast? 

We're dedicating the month of May to our girls at My Refuge House. When you run, bike or even dance you can help bring about awareness about the issue of human trafficking. In addition to the awareness you can use that movement to raise funds to continue the efforts of My Refuge House.

We found a sprinkler during today’s 🤣 It seemed to inspire a little extra movement and a little extra freedom.

It kind reminded me of a video of our girls sliding down a slip and slide a few years ago. I’ll try to find and share that video again soon.

Ike (our 13-year-old) accepted Nana’s challenge to join this year. She said she’d sponsor him with a donation every day he moves for 30 minutes. He’s an now and determined to keep moving every day. My hope is always that my kids know that they’re also part of the family, and it’s fun that it’s more tangible this month. Thanks for always inspiring people to show up.

A quilt is made of many pieces — different colors, different textures, different stories — stitched together into something that holds you.

The quilting circle at St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon, VA, has given each of our girls something rare for years. The newest girls got theirs this week. 🥹 Something to call only their own. Made by hand. Given with love. Stitched with the kind of care that says: you belong here. You are held.

We are so grateful for this support.

Today I journeyed with two friends. Twists and turns and ups and downs around town. It struck me as we moved and shared about our lives that there are deep parallels between our own lives and the larger movement for freedom beyond our individual lives. Some of the twists and turns are unexpected. Some of the hard parts go on longer than we want or feel ready for. But when we’ve got each other, we have encouragement and people who remind us to pace ourselves…or friends who’ve “been there” and can affirm that it’s terrible at the moment, but it gets better and to have a little grace.

I find myself feeling a little anxious lately about the state of the world and the impact it might have on … I’m not always forthcoming with my anxieties, but I was reminded today that sharing our angsts alongside our hopes is a good way to invite friends in so we don’t carry it all alone.

This is what I always hope we’re teaching and modeling for the girls at MRH. It is what I hope you know you’re supporting when you donate to 🫶

“The Power of Showing Up.”

That was the theme at this morning’s South Pasadena Prayer Breakfast, and honestly, it’s the heartbeat of everything we’re building at right now.

This morning’s breakfast said everything I’ve been trying to say about our Neighbor track in Movement for Freedom. A room full of people committed to being present . . . in prayer, in generosity, near and far.

We’re so grateful My Refuge House was seen and supported here again this year alongside so many other incredible organizations.

Yesterday I moved the way instructed. Today my body said slow down — and I’m listening. 😄

So today I’m showing up as a Neighbor. A Catalyst whose spark today looks like stillness, prayer, and holding the girls and my coworkers at My Refuge House in my heart.

I’ve been sitting with this prayer by Miriam Therese Winter all day. “I am the Refuge of all who weep. I am the Mother of all who live.” If you’ve been following and wondering if there’s a place for you that doesn’t involve running shoes or aching knees, this is it.

Will you pray with me today? For the girls in Cebu who are healing. For the staff who love them. For the movement that’s growing around them.

Three tracks. One movement. Your spark doesn’t have to look the same every day. 🔥
