Thanks to those who visited our Wheelhouse ceramics sale today! Tomorrow I will be set up again for the Monrovia Historic Homes Tour along with a dozen crafters. We will be located at St Luke’s Episcopal church, 122 California Ave, Monrovia from 9:00-4:00. One needn’t do the tour in order to shop.

Just a reminder...There will be 30+ of us displaying our creations for viewing or purchase. Free admittance! There will be signs directing you to the exact location. Early arrival offers the best choices, but there will be plenty to see all day.

I will be joining my fellow pottery producing friends at our Wheelhouse Studio ceramics sale on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 am-4 pm. We'll all be set up at the Santa Fe school gym, 148 West Duarte Rd, Monrovia. Here a sampling of my new mugs, along with bowls, vases, plates and lots of leaves.

I’ve not had much experience with plate making and am experimenting with plate thickness and clay body to avoid warping. I’m pretty happy with these guys using geranium leaves pressed into the clay, staining with oxide and then figuring out the right thickness of glaze application to get my desired result. I love this clay body and think it’s the earthy look I wanted.

At $40+ a bag, porcelain gets extra treatment and care. These guys have been babied throughout the process of forming, handling and carving and the drying was done ever so slowly to ensure handles are permanently attached. It’s now up to the 1st firing, glazing and final firing. 😊

Two opportunities for an outing and/or holiday shopping)! I'm going to be displaying a good bit of pottery at both Padua Hills Theatre in Claremont this Sunday (where there will be multiple expressions of art) and at our local Wheelhouse studio in Monrovia on the first Saturday in December (where 30 plus ceramicists will be there with a huge variety of styles). I'd love to see you and there is no obligation to buy anything!

Drying mugs…I always feel like they are in a private conversation or meeting with their handles toward each other. (Which, along with a thin plastic cover, I do to help the slower drying and prevent handles from separating from the mug) I do get attached to each little guy and they all have a different personality. Am I nuts? Maybe…🤣
