Hello, my name is Curtie, and I invite you to check out the site and learn a little more
about my business, Curtie’s Touch of Color. Finally she agreed but gave me strict orders not to move anything… I
found out quickly that I could paint around objects, and for a while you could tell where
certain things belonged... chairs… tables… the pie safe… the fridge. At least I knew I
could neatly cut
around things. My break into exterior painting came during my junior year of high school when I painted
a house white with dark green window trim. The owner seemed a bit worried when he
saw the shade of that green paint, but he soon relaxed and ended up being very happy
with my skills. I made $324 on that job. At the time my old car cost $300. After graduating from Highland High School, I tried my hand at plumbing, duct work,
carpentry, and went to welding school. After eight weeks of classes, my instructor
stopped me, pulled up his face shield, and told me I would make a better painter than a
welder. So I took his advice and have been rewarded by working with a variety of great
clients. I am blessed to have been born and raised in Highland County, Virginia. I live in this great area with my wife, Mary Beth, and
two sons – Chad and daughter-in-law, Tressica, and Trent. Along the journey, our family has tried to give back to the community by helping with clubs,
contributing to the American Cancer Society and the county’s Relay for Life event, serving as chairman for the Highland
County Fair Dog Show, and contributing to the Little Switzerland Strutters. Working with the area’s youth is something else
Mary Beth and I hold near and dear. “Curtie the Builder” makes an appearance now and again at the Highland County Public
Library to read stories to the children and teach them about tools and tool safety. I’ve also coached soccer and t-ball through
our local recreation department, and I coached basketball at Highland High School. Curtie's Touch of Color ~ Est. 1988
