Here we have a Bay Tree on a steep rocky embankment. This tree had all the signs of a “bad tree”, including rotten wood, a hollowed out base, a compromised root system, five spars, and all of the weight heading downhill toward a walking trail and a suspension foot bridge.

I’ll admit that this was even more of a physiological challenge than a physical challenge. However, anyone familiar with cutting this species knows that it’s no joke. It’s heavy, dense wood that needs to be treated with respect. That, plus the poor condition of the base of the tree made for an exciting couple of days.
