An "eye splice" is a knot that I learned in the fire service; it is used to tie the halyards on extension ladders. By the end of my firefighting career, it had become somewhat of a dying art. I did my best to try and pass it on, but I will continue to use it and this is an example of a good use of the skill. The first image is of a swing that I made (using this eye splice knot which will hold its shape indefinitely) and put in our front yard from the oak tree when we first moved in. I got a chance to do it for someone else who will enjoy it for years to come.
