Big box kits are water-based and low solids, meaning the coating is much thinner. Professional-grade systems are typically 100% solids and build a thicker, more durable surface. Think paint vs. plastic — that’s the difference in wear resistance.

2. Surface prep still matters — a lot.
Most kits suggest an “acid wash” to prep the concrete, but that doesn’t actually open the pores of the slab the way mechanical grinding does. Without proper prep, even a good epoxy won’t stick for long.
