Inflorescence, let’s talk about them.

An inflorescence is a flowering structure that consists of more than one flower. Did you know there are a couple classes of inflos? Let’s chat about the two main groups: Racemose (indeterminate) and Cymose (determinate).

The easiest way to tell the difference is?
🪻Racemose keeps growing with expanding flowers along a stalk. Growing from bottom to top and when the top flower blooms, it dies off. Think of a ladder and the blooms growing as you walk up the ladder.

🪻Cymose stops after the main flower blooms, and you’ll find the oldest flower at the top with the youngest flowers mid to the bottom. Think of a firework and how it spreads out and down as it expands.

The spadix is classified in one of these two groups. Which is it? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

This hybrid means more to me than just beautiful foliage.

The lux expression creates those subtle, living ripples across the leaf, softly shifting with the light, while the velvet texture keeps everything grounded and rich.

Those pink veins aren’t loud, but they’re intentional, giving just enough contrast to make the whole leaf feel alive.

This plant was created by my friend Marc, someone who is truly near and dear to me. You can see his patience and discernment in the structure, the balance, the restraint. Nothing here is accidental. This is the kind of plant that rewards attention, the kind that reflects the grower as much as the genetics behind it.

Honored to grow and care for this hybrid, and deeply grateful to call its creator a friend. 💗

Reflecting on this year, and I’m so grateful to have met wonderful people in this community. I look forward to meeting more of ‘my’ people, and seeing what we can accomplish together!

2025 and the last few years have brought some of the hardest seasons of my life, but a ton of good has also happened, and so I’m incredibly grateful for those very hard lessons, learning curves, traumas - whatever you may call them.

I don’t usually make new years goals, but it seems appropriate this time around. Some goals for the next year

🌿 Own my fitness and get back in shape
🌿 Give back to the horticulture community
🌿 Complete my Associates in Science of Horticulture
🌿 Expand my photography to work with botanical gardens, forest preserves, and private collectors
🌿 Continue to make family a priority
🌿 Spend more time outdoors in the fresh air
🌿 Create hybrids with intent, documenting them along the way and noting observations.

I was going to post several photos from my collection, but this seemed like the perfect one. I took a chance on a one leaf seedling back in January! Yes, January. I saw it crash a couple of times, because well, sometimes life gets busy, and you can’t keep up with watering. With some dedicated love…..now she’s persevering!

Life is kind of like that. Be gentle on yourself in all seasons. Remember we are all wandering around trying to figure this s**t out, and if you face plant a couple times, you’ll be alright. Will you have a broken nose? Maybe. But you’ll heal.

Cheers to us! May love, patience, and understanding find you in all your relationships, in all your hardships, and all your wins! 🥂
