Yesterday I got off to a little bit of a late start. I had to fix my sawmill’s tire before heading to a job in Burlington, NJ to help another great customer turn his White Oak trees into live edge slabs and lumber. 🌲

Out of 2 trees that were taken down we had about 7-8 logs up to about 22-24” diameter and we cut them in 2 1/4” thick live edge slabs, 5/4 dimensional lumber, and some 4x8 beams. It took a little under 4 hours to get it done ✅

This was my second portable sawmill job of the week. The first one was in Delaware and this one was past that in Gelena Md.

So I traveled about 1.5 hours to the beautiful property to help this customer turn his logs to lumber. 🪵🪚

We milled Black Walnut, Cherry, and Black Locusts. Some very good north eastern hardwoods.

Couldn’t have done it without the lt40 bandsaw mill!

I met some great customers and helped them turn their maple trees into live edge slabs and lumber for future woodworking projects.

The customer recently had to have several maple trees removed from his property and asked the tree company to leave a few small 3’ logs behind for some woodturning projects. Somewhere along the way there was a little mix-up, and instead of a few small logs, they left several 8–9’ logs.

Not knowing what to do with them, the customer even considered buying a sawmill before finding out about my portable sawmill services.

We turned those logs into live edge slabs and lumber that will be used for future projects, including a table and benches for the customer’s new home. 🏡🪵

Always cool helping people keep trees from their property and turn them into something they’ll be able to enjoy for years to come. 🌳➡️🪵➡️🏡

Here’s an example of one of our unfinished locally sourced Black Walnut counter top. With pricing 🪵💵💲

We get the logs from local tree companies, sawmill, dry, and machine all of our lumber. We control the process start to finish and we have fun doing it!

We put a lot of work into our booth for Moorestown day this year.

In the previouse years I think I looked more like a cutting board salesman and to be honest my daughter Arabella would make just as much money as me selling bracelets 🤷‍♂️😂

I always said the point of these vendor events was not to make money it was to get the word out. So I thought I’d be able to tell everyone about what Lucky Nelson’s does and why it’s so cool and unique. 📢

Most people just walked by though. 😑

I realized I had to change my booth set up…. Why was I bringing things to sell that are not my main products and how am I going to get the word out about being a sawmill.

So I made some major upgrades this year with the tent and the things I chose to display at the show:

1. A beautiful figured Black Walnut live edge slab

2. Not just 1 but 2 of our Standard design dining tables

3. A little walnut counter top

4. Floating shelves

5. Live edge cookie coffee table

6. Cutting boards and charcuterie boards

This year felt way better. The conversations, the way people were looking inside the tent.

Last but not least it was a beautiful day and family and friends stopped by as well ☀️❤️

We spent quite a bit of time and effort into our booth for Moorestown day.

Unfortunately previous events I’ve done I looked like more of a cutting board salesman 🤦‍♂️

Hopefully this conveys the message a little better about what Lucky Nelsons and using locally sourced lumber is all about!

So this is much better!

One of the bonuses of my portable sawmilling service is that I get to work in some really beautiful places and meet some really cool and interesting people. This job had both!

is a visual artist with a unique story. He also has a nonprofit, , that helps incarcerated people find art as a creative outlet. He even won an Emmy as the subject of a documentary that I’m definitely going to check out.

Back to the portable sawmilling though…

Jesse had to remove a couple of trees on his property to make space for a new studio he’ll be building. We milled two big Black Walnut trees along with a bunch of Eastern Red Cedar. We cut a variety of walnut slabs in different thicknesses and milled the cedar into a stack of beautiful 1” boards.

The plan is to use the lumber in the new studio and possibly for renovations around the house as well. 🌳🪵⚒️
