Union County Community Garden Coalition

Union County Community Garden Coalition UCCGC helps create gardens at schools, senior citizen's centers, churches, and low income areas. We teach people how to grow, prepare and preserve food.

The Union County Community Garden Coalition is an initiative sponsored by the Union County Fiscal Court that creates partnerships between local organizations, businesses, and interested individuals to form community gardens at schools, churches, senior citizen's centers, and low income areas. We will utilize our county's ties to a rich agricultural history and longstanding gardening tradition. Tog

ether we can develop programs that will teach people how to grow, prepare, and preserve their own food, provide more opportunities for healthy lifestyles, and save money in the process. The Garden Coalition is a unique partnership between the Union County Fiscal Court and the Appalachian Coal Country Team - sponsored by the AmeriCorps-VISTA program and the Office of Surface Mining.

WE NEED HELP!!! We have been given an opportunity to use a piece of equipment with a bucket this afternoon at the Middle School about 4:00. This is an incredible opportunity to clean up the garden before school starts. The work is not hard or laborious. We need help laying cardboard in the walkways. I realize this is last minute, but sometimes we have to seize the moment. Your assistance is GREATLY appreciated. Please, help us!!! Shane Bosaw of the Union County schools Food Services will operate the equipment.

The new community market is coming along! The lights are working!!! UC High School Students made the lights by repurposing the outer bark from trees that were made into beams, adding Edison bulbs and cloth wires! If you know a UC High School student who took a shop class this year, please, share this post with them. Thank you!!!
