SCAM AWARENESS NOTICE: The City of Morganton Development and Design Department would like to make citizens aware of a recent issue where local contractors are working within the city limits without being properly licensed. This work includes heating and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical and plumbing. It is against Morganton City Ordinance and North Carolina General Statute to perform HVAC, electrical or plumbing work within North Carolina without being properly licensed.
When it comes to performing work as a general contractor, North Carolina’s licensure requirements are strict. If you don’t have a proper license, you don’t have a legitimate contract, and you have no claim if you were to go to court. No license, no contract, no claim.
In addition to not having a legit contract and claim, the City could not approve that work, and you will have to have the changes removed/replaced by a licensed contractor. We don’t want this to happen to you; so, we want you to be aware of the following ways to check to make sure your contractor is properly licensed.
You can either:
- Visit the following website https://www.ncppa.us/quick-links/ and pick the type of contractor you are working with and look up the specific name/business name of your contractor.
- Call the City of Morganton at 828-438-5266 or email [email protected] with the specific name of your contractor/company.
