Break out the Kevlar gloves and eye protection, time to prune our Szechuan Pepper!

Don’t miss your chance to prune this winter!
Giving your fruit trees a nice haircut before they bloom for spring can give them a much better chance at producing better and more fruit later in the season.

Medlar is not the most beautiful fruit, but its spiced apple cinnamon flavor is perfect for a cold December treat.

Cultivated for thousands of years and significant in Ancient Greece and Rome, this member of the rose family produces gorgeous white to pinkish rose-like flowers in late spring, which develop into these inch white brown fruits.

Referred to as "open arse" by Shakespeare, and "cul de chien" (or "dog's backside) in common French, the language surrounding this fruit doesn't inspire visions of a culinary delicacy, however the medlar is a rare and delicious treat that we think everyone should try!

Have you ever tried medlar?

✨Thimbleberry✨ The other day I mistakenly referred to this beautiful, delicate berry as Salmonberry. As someone who isn’t a big fan of Salmonberry but very much a Thimbleberry lover, I was bummed out by my mistake. However, it was fun to hear back from so many Thimbleberry fans! Thank you all for your feedback. If you’re lucky enough to come across this infamous berry, I hope you gobble it up before it starts to melt in your hands.

We had the awesome opportunity to tour a local friend and grower’s farm today. Spotted among their brambles was a beautiful section of Thornless Blackberries. After spending the last few weeks beating through thorny raspberry bushes, these delicious blackberries are a welcome treat. We love getting to see what our growers get up to. Great job, Rainy Glen Farm!

We are just starting to see the first signs of Spring in our area. Here in East Lewis County, Spring hits a bit later than our maritime neighbors in Seattle. If you’re like me, you might be second guessing when is the *right* time to plant your order. Don’t stress. Feel free to reach out, we have a team of amazing Plant Ambassadors that are here to help answer your regional growing questions.

Join us March 9that the NW Fruit Field Day! It is located in Mount Vernon. Sign up early and consider becoming a member. It’s an incredible program organized by the Western Washington Fruit Research Foundation.

The Founder, Sam, has been a part of this organization since the beginning. Many of the trees and plants here have been sourced by Raintree. We are grateful for the work and research they do. NW Fruit has helped growers begin and develop their skills for decades.
